Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Seccombe, has launched a public survey seeking vital feedback on the key priorities that will shape the next Police and Crime Plan. There are three key focus areas of the plan that the commissioner is consulting on. The second pillar highlights safeguarding people, which is another core function of policing and community safety partners. Within this focus area there are four areas of focus. Reducing Violent Crime and Abuse: Violence and abuse are unacceptable in any form, yet they remain far too common in our society. More must be done to prevent the generational cycle of offending, bring offenders to justice, support victims, and help rebuild lives. The Commissioner will support the continuation of work to address violent crime and abuse and improving the safety of our public spaces. This includes tackling violence against women and girls, domestic abuse and hate crime.Tackling Exploitation: The exploitation of vulnerable individuals by criminals for financial or sexual gain remains a significant and often hidden problem in our society. Organised crime groups are deeply involved in activities such as drug cultivation, modern slavery, and immigration crime. The Commissioner wants to focus efforts on identifying and protecting vulnerable individuals at risk of exploitation, while advocating for a coordinated, multi-agency response.Preventing Reoffending: By addressing the underlying causes of crime, we can help individuals make a lasting change in their lives, reducing reoffending rates and making our communities safer. The Commissioner wants to ensure that rehabilitation efforts provide offenders with the tools to rebuild their lives. This can include targeted support for those with complex needs, such as mental health and substance misuse issues, as well as a focus on significant perpetrators of crime and breaking the generational cycle of crime.Reducing Road Casualties: As chair of Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership, the Commissioner wants to continue to see improvements in road safety, with the aim of substantial reductions in casualty figures. We have a challenging target to halve the numbers of people killed and seriously injured by 2030. It is achievable if we all play our part and the Police and Crime Plan will support this, enabling a mix of proactive policing, partnership working, education of road users and advocacy for change at a local and national level. The Commissioner is interested to hear what you think about these and other draft priorities.
